A kids first haircut can be a pretty traumatic experience. Having a stranger come at you with a pair of scissors can be a terrifying experience if their aren't prepared.
Here's a few quick tips:
1. Give them warning ahead of time. Let them watch you getting a trim or maybe play hairdresser in front of the mirror so they know what to expect.
2. Use words like 'trim' over 'cut' and 'shears' over 'scissors.'
3. Schedule your visit for right after a nap or meal time so they're feeling comfortable.
4. Bring their favorite stuffed animal, tv show or snack for a distraction.
5. Be excited, don't show anxiety and try to make the first experience a good one as it will set the tone for the future.
In the end, if it's not perfect, it's ok. Hair grows back and babies can get away with all kinds of styles.
The great thing about little kids is that no hairstyle can possibly make them look less lovable. Here are a few pictures of kids with awesome hair!
Learn a thing or two from your kids and remember the motto, 'Messy Hair, Don't Care.'
