Cabin fever is a real deal on those cold and snowy days. We all know that little kids are full of energy and need space to exert it in a productive way. Why not encourage your kids movement by joining in on the fun with a few simple interactive games.
1. Turn into an Airplane: Lay on the floor with your legs bent and your child's stomach against your shins. Lift them into the air by raising your legs while holding their hands for balance. Make airplane noises and ask your kids about their destination.
2. Wheelbarrow Obstacle Course: Hold your kids by their ankles and have them walk on their hands around the room. Set up obstacles for them to maneuver around. If you have another kid/parent set, why not make it a race?
3. Crab Crawl: Challenge your kids to a game of soccer pretending to be a crab. You can only move around sideways and facing up on your hands and feet. Up the ante by only using one foot and see how far you go.
4. Hot Lava: Pretend that the floor is lava and you have to escape by jumping on randomly spread pieces of paper (or low furniture if you're up for it.)
5. Freeze Dance: Turn on your favorite music and dance to the beat. Turn the music off at random times and everyone has to freeze in position.
6. Play the 'Step to it' game that gives you cards with a certain number of steps, hops or jumps you can take to get to a certain household object.
7. Balance Beam Tape: Use masking tape on the floor as a balance beam. Have younger kids try to walk in a straight line on the tape. Older kids might try something more difficult like a cartwheel on the tape. It's great for those gross motor skills without the risk of a raised beam.
Have fun and get those wiggles out!
