Right now it's impossible for us to walk out the front door and not be surrounded by fallen chestnuts. They are everywhere! Since my only previous experience with chestnuts was singing about them 'roasting over an open fire,' we thought it would be fun for the kids to collect them for a creative project and found these sweet creatures in the process.
With a little glue and a poking object like a nail, your chestnuts are transformed!
Your kids can create a whole zoo or farm with a little help from some acorns and chestnut pods for accessories.
Paper, felt, clay, paperclips, matchsticks and sharpies give inspiration to these round nuts.
And don't forget to save some for roasting and eating later!
