Sending love to your family and friends during the holidays is a wonderful tradition and a marvellous occasion to create your own Christmas cards with your children.
I already presented you my idea for Christmas cards if you a have a newborn here. Today, I have an easy craft for toddlers that is super fun and will also train their fine motor skills.
Simply punch some holes into a card made from cardboard with Christmas motives. Then cut out bells, Christmas trees, reindeers and stars and put another set of holes into them. Now it’s your toddler’s turn: He or she can try to thread a string through the holes and “sew” the Christmas items to the card.
Of course, my younger niece (2 years old) needed a little more help, but she was eager to succeed. It was so cute to see how she concentrated while aiming at the hole. My older niece (nearly 4 years old) also enjoyed our little Christmas craft very much. It is a great opportunity to enhance a child’s fine motor skills in a playful way.
They will need to coordinate small muscle movements and synchronize their fingers with their eyes all at the same time – a real challenge! “Sewing” a Christmas card helps to develop all these skills without taking too long.
It took us about 5 minutes to finish the cards before their concentration faded.
I really liked that we could all calm down for a while during the usual Christmas chaos and concentrate on creating some last minute Christmas cards for our loved ones.
