"If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles." - Doug Larson

Here's a simple and non-messy activity for your young fishing enthusiasts. It only took us 15 minutes to set up and it's guaranteed fun! You need:

  • construction paper
  • paper clips
  • a magnet (We found ours at the craft store for .70 cents.)
  • scissors
  • string
  • tape
  • a stick
  • hot glue gun (this was a last minute addition)

Have your kids cut out the fish. We used a template found online but they can be creative and draw their own if they like. And if you want, have your kids color and decorate their fish. You could just attach your paper clips to the fish the old fashioned way but we decided to tape them to the back so they'd look more fishlike.

Hot glue your magnet to the string. Then tie the string to your stick and hot glue that end too if the knot doesn't do the trick.

There you go! Have your kids fish from a couch or chair to the floor to get more of the effect of casting their reel.
