It's a part of life and how we raise our kids that we remind them to be tidy, to take care, not to damage property, teach them to stay in the lines, don't tear pages or write in books. These are all valuable lesson for life but at the same time they can stifle a creative mind.
The 'Wreck This Journal' can be an outlet. This is not a free for all, to say destroy every book you own. Here is just one book where you are instructed to be 'destructive' in a creative way.
Each page gives directions to think outside the box. Kids are encouraged to poke holes in the pages, mess something up and fix it again, to color outside the lines, to drop the book from somewhere high, to glue pages together, to rip them apart and to get them wet.
I had a hard time with this idea at first because I value books very highly and could never imagine to purposely destroy them. But the more I saw these pages of art work that came as a result, the more I wanted to throw it all to the wind and get a Wreck it Journal for myself!
I think this can be a great tool for kids in a day where perfection is given top ranking in society.
This is just one way to encourage your kids to think outside of the norm, to embrace their creativity. And really, the most genius writers, artists or composers are the ones who stepped outside of the box to look at life in a new way.
