What could be a better way to issue in a new month then by pulling pranks on your unsuspecting loved ones? With a little preparation, your kids will be looking at you like you lost your marbles. That is until you yell ‘April Fools!’ Just be prepared for the payback. Here’s a few of my favorite ideas to really confuse your kids.
Wake up:
If your kids are heavy sleeper, try to switch them into their siblings bed while they sleep and watch the confusion when they wake up.
Saran wrap a wall of balloons to your kids door that spill on them when opened. The saran wrap is so you can watch their expressions.
Edible ideas:
Have their cereal waiting for them when they get to breakfast but only after you pull it from the freezer. Watch them try to stick their spoon through the milk unsuccessfully. And then offer them the real deal.
Turn their milk blue with food coloring but act like you don’t notice a thing.
Offer them a special treat of Oreo’s but don’t tell them that you replaced the icing with white toothpaste. Maybe they won’t notice.
Along with their usual lunch, pack your kids a microscopic lunch in a matchbox with a tiny sandwich and shreds of carrots for carrot sticks. Make a donut out of a piece of cereal.
Put googly eyes on their food or on all the food in the fridge.
Special gifts:
Since your kids have at this point put up with so much from you, reward them with a small present. Except wrap your gift in a box, in a box, in a box etc. and see how much they really want what’s inside.
Point out a coin on the ground and let them try to pick it up. They won’t be able to because you already super glued it to the ground. Or similar, have a dollar on a clear string and hide. Wait for them to notice and pull the dollar before they reach it.
Overnight growth spurt:
Switch out your kids clothes for some that they have long outgrown or some from a younger sibling. Put cotton in the ends of their shoes so they don’t fit.
If you really plan ahead you can have them eat a new vegetable the night before that is 'guaranteed to make them grow at super speed.'
You can also use the microscopic lunch idea here or even serve your kids breakfast on doll plates in tiny portions.
Make sure your kids know April Fools is all in fun. And throw in some extra hugs as you laugh together.
