Kids are very active and always eager to explore new things every day. They don't want rooms that are primarily functional, but inspiring and exciting.
If you are looking for something that is not specifically gendered then here is a great idea for an amazing kids room. My nieces are the lucky little monkeys that inhabit this jungle of fun and coziness.
The jungle theme goes through their whole room but I love the reading and cuddling corner especially. It's also the perfect place for a little nap.
If you want to give your kids the same cute cuddling corner, then all you need is a bamboo rod or broomstick, some seat cushions and a small matress. Simply attach the bamboo rod to the wall and tie the seat cushions to it to create a comfy back (see below). Lots of other cushions and blankets will make it extra cozy. The huge leaves are from IKEA.

They also included little details such as animal hooks and knobs or a little crafts project.
Even the adorable little doll got some jungle themed bed linen. 
There is also a super easy DIY idea to pimp every lamp up jungle style. My sister-in-law simply sewed a coat from fabric with jungle animals. The result looks amazing.
What's also really great about the whole room is that apart from the monkey wall stickers, all decorations can easily be changed if the girls have enough of the jungle and want to explore another world right in their own home.

Why wait for the kids to grow up? Start with a jungle nursery for your baby by hanging up these cute jungle and safari canvas or a flying jumping jack parrot. My nieces loved to look at it during diaper change when they were younger.
